Friday Crush

photo Christopher Baker via House Beautiful

A shot from the dining room that goes with the living room from my tortoise tumblers* post; design by Markham Roberts. Lacquered green walls, blanc de chine figurines, pops of turquoise and coral...and I love the symmetry.

What are you up to this weekend? Any design adventures planned?

I'm venturing to a fabric shop on Saturday morning that I have not been to yet - I'm telling myself that it will be my last foray into fabrics for the living room and then I need to make some decisions. I'll let you know if I score any loot.

Happy weekend, friends. See you Monday.

UPDATE: For locals, if you peek at the comments below, reader Style Redux 2 makes a great recommendation for this weekend - the DC Big Flea is once again taking place. Also, I remembered that Chartreuse and Co. in Frederick, MD is opening its doors every weekend starting this weekend through Dec. 13. Two great decor destinations if you're looking for something fun in the DC area this weekend!

*Did I tell you that I'm now the proud owner of my own set of fab tortoise tumblers? Courtesy of my best friend Margaret (and her husband Tyler) for my bday. Thanks Margie :)

  1. I am inspired by this post. I have a very ugly built-in shelf in my dining area. I have put a variety of mismatched stuff on them, and I have never liked how it looks. The big problem is that the shelves are not deep enough or tall enough for anything substantial. If you're willing, I'll attach a photo later on and ask for suggestions. . .

  2. Elise, is the sky blue? Of course send me a pic (and if you have other pics of the room so I can get a larger view)...would love to help you brainstorm some ideas.

  3. This is so gorgeous. Three ideas for your Saturday or Sunday. The D.C. Big Flea, Lucketts Design House and shopping in Lucketts, then wine at Tarara Winery for wine and some fall foliage. That's my Saturday plans. Then brunch in D.C. and the Georgetown Flea on Sunday, and a Mad Men finale party.

  4. SR2, your weekend sounds amazing. I'm heading to The Second Yard in Fairfax on Saturday morning to further my fabric-picking goals. All of your hot spots are places on my list to hit up very soon! Especially Lucketts...I have been dying to go.

  5. Just ran across your blog via Style Redux. I'm a huge chinoiserie fan, and I love what you did with Beth's blog, and your work here. Gorgeous! It's so refreshing to see a really beautiful look like this.

This House Beautiful spread is one of my favorite - is it me, or are they really turning it up a notch lately? I've really enjoyed the last issue.

  6. Sanity Fair - Thank you so much for the kind words! I do think HB is kicking it up a notch - their recent issues have had some really beautiful work. I hope they keep it coming as it is a great source of inspiration for me. Come back soon :)
