Katie Rosenfeld NYC

It's been a while since I've written about one of my favorite designers - Katie Rosenfeld - and, boy, do I have a doozy for you today.

Check out this maximalist New York City apartment...Katie and her client did not hold back and the results are stunning.

My personal favorite space is the bedroom featuring Les Touches with that punctuation of spring green. But every space is thrilling to look at with hearty doses of Chinoiserie and color.

Check out the full apartment here, along with some notes on the design from Katie...

Friday Crush

Photo by Luke White, Design by Michael Maher, via House Beautiful

My favorite thing here - beside the obvious wallpaper usage - is that mirror hung above the window. It's unexpected and draws your eye up making a tight room feel grand. Love how the headboards neatly tuck into the corners and the overall soothing symmetry of the space.

Enjoy the weekend toasting the mothers in your life. See you next week!

Lake House Bedroom

Many moons ago, I had the pleasure of working with a client on a design for a bedroom at her lake house. The room needed to pull double duty as her adult daughter's bedroom as well as a guest room, when needed.

She wanted the vibe comfortable, traditional, and punctuated with color. And here is where I landed:

You don't know how much joy it brought me to mix red with lavender in a room with two beds. And I owe the color combo to the scrumptious print for the wall above said beds: At the Lake, by T.S. Harris.

I was so pumped to recall this print because it had everything I was looking for - something feminine, great colors, and on-theme in a whimsical way.

From there, lovely soft lavender headboards, punchy red bedskirts, powder blue linens, a blush lamp and some bold, gutsy mirrors all pulled themselves together to create a space I wouldn't mind lounging in on vacation.

As with all design boards I do for clients, I don't share the full source list as the sources are meant only for the lovely people who paid me for my time to track them down. But I am ready, willing, and able to do one of these snazzy boards for your own space - just email me!

It's almost the weekend...

Friday Crush

Precious twin girl bedroomness by Richmond-based designer Lizzie Cox of Suellen Gregory Interior Design. The color scheme is perfect and I LOVE the painted-bed-base-upholstered-headboard combo. Sweet, simple, sophisticated.

Fall is around the corner and I'm pretty pumped. How are you feeling about it? I love the fresh start that comes with September. Until then, we'll be at the pool. Have a great weekend - see you next week!

Catalog Pick: Terrace Bunk Bed

I saw this Terrace Bunk Bed in the Land of Nod catalog:

And immediately thought of this iconic children's space:

The Land of Nod bed is your one-way ticket to creating a similar look and I LOVE it. Although I get the allure of a bunk bed for space and general child merriment, can't say I often think it's chic. But I'm into this.

The bunk bed would also look bananas painted the same color of the wall to create a built-in look.

Friday Crush

Photo by Pieter Estersohn for Architectural Digest

Pure sunshine from designer Nick Olsen in a child's room. Yellow can be tricky, folks. I have had trouble using it in the past and find that it works well as a bold punctuation, like this bed. Although put together this space is fun and juvenile, the elements are perfectly classic. A+

It's HOT. And I am attempting a theme park run with Ana Claire tomorrow. Pray for me. Hope your weekend is wonderful...see you next week!

Friday Crush

Design by Robin Henry; image via Gadabout on Pinterest

Twin. Bedrooms. Are. My. Favorite. The end.

Ok, not the end. The headboards. The crisp sheets. That rug. The footstool. The pillows. The pink book stack on the left and the blue book stack, whose opposing hues disrupt the GLORIOUS symmetry of this space. Basically everything is 100% on point here. And that wall color is perfection. I'm not sure where this home is, but it feels very California.

I am beyond happy that Fall is in full swing and I no longer feel boot shame. I hope you are doing something delightful this weekend...see you next week!

Friday Crush

Loving this bedding moment from Ali Fuge's studio apartment in House Beautiful. Crisp white contrasted with gorgeous pops of color. Works especially well as the rest of the space is pretty neutral. And you can never go wrong with a sunburst mirror...never.

Have a fantastic weekend! See you next week!

Mirrored Walls

How do we feel about mirrored walls?

I recently saw this one and it caught my eye...I think I love how rich the furniture looks contrasted against the cool, glassy wall. Makes everything sparkly and warm:

Do you think a mirrored wall works, but only in certain situations...like a bright, colorful beachy condo where the mirrored wall reflects back the gorgeous ocean?

Someone remind me of this designer, photo by Annie Schlechter for Coastal Living

Or are they simply for bathrooms where mirror is right at home with tile and other hard surfaces?

Ralph Lauren, photog name?, for Architectural Digest (let's all note the garden stool in the shower)

OR, can they be right at home in "regular" spaces like a cozy living room, entry or our original bedroom photo?

Source?

If done well, I think a mirrored wall can work anywhere but it takes a great eye to make it look intentional and not tacky. I think all of these spaces pull it off.

So, what's your take?

Twinning

I just came across the most spectacular round-up of twin bedrooms on House Beautiful's website. I'm a nut for a room with twin beds...something about the symmetry? I don't know, but it's a slight obsession of mine.

Here are some gems:

My dream guest bedroom. The four-posters!

Soothing and gender neutralish.

Fantastic for two boys to share.

Would totally dig this for my imaginary mountain house.

Friday Crush

Woah.

Spotted this on Pinterest from Chinoiserie Chic, pinned from The Foo Dog Ate My Homework. It's designer Nancy Morton's bedroom as seen in Architectural Digest.

Now that that's taken care of, woah. That green bed against those baby blue walls is the stuff dreams are made of. Not to mention the timeless Chinoiserie flair. And why isn't scalloped moulding standard at Home Depot?

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! See you next week!
