Foyer Wallpaper

Well, that was a cool two months with no blog posts. I have come to learn that in my new life of 3 kids and a new house, I can't make promises. Because I no longer keep them. But I do know that my brain is full of blog posts so I just need to push to put them down here for you and me to enjoy.

Like what's going on with our foyer. Our foyer that still doesn't exist, but we do have a concrete plan for building it with our contractor.

If you remember, I already had some plans for our foyer before we moved in - see this post. But alas, the vintage wallpaper was not nearly enough to cover what I needed, so I began a new wallpaper search.

Sidenote: I think I have ordered every wallpaper sample available in the United States.

But I am happy to report that after months of samples, pondering, self-doubt, and excitement, I finally landed on Manuel Canovas' Bengale in the Grenat colorway, which is a boisterous explosion of crimson and purple. We are not being shy in this new house.

Our foyer will be a small space so I wanted to go big with the walls. And you know I've had a long love affair with shades of lavender and purple. I've also picked a couple of places where I plan to accent the first floor with touches of red, so it felt right that the house should warmly greet us with this color palette.

We have been deep in plans for six months and we are finally on the precipice of starting work on the house. Hopefully this propels me to share on a more frequent basis now that some real decisions have been made.

Dreams, Coming True

Friends! I'm here! And I'm going to put Scalamandre's Shanghai wallpaper in my new dining room. Dreams do come true.

I have so many updates. So, so many. But really, few beat this bit of news re: wallpaper. I've had the sample taped up in the dining room for a couple of months now. And Carter Shuffler is on board. I was preparing Power Point presentations to convince him that using this paper would be a solid move that would pay dividends in the future. High ROI. But he was in agreement pretty much immediately. Good man.

I have plans for painted moulding and a lipstick red lantern light fixture. So many good things to come with this house....

But they aren't here yet. We still have moving boxes tucked into every corner. Our new microwave and dishwasher might be sitting in our living room. But we'll get there. I'm actually pretty happy that we are taking our time. Not only because doing work on the house will be so disruptive (hello three kids) so I'm avoiding starting, but also because we are being v thoughtful with each decision.

I've missed y'all! Haven't quite worked out what my regular posting schedule will be like, but I hope to start ramping up and getting back to you with some regularity.

xoxo

Foyer Thoughts

Remember this foyer from Bailey McCarthy? Did it stick with you like it did with me? It's serving as one of the first bits of inspiration for the new house.

Our move is not finalized but I (obviously) have prelim thoughts on decoration. Like the look of the foyer we might be creating. As in, there is no actual foyer right now. But there IS dead space around the entrance that is begging to be walled off to create a proper entry space. A proper entry space that I can wallpaper.

*Cue the angels singing*

I actually arrived at said wallpaper first, before the inspo pic.  A serendipitous eBay search brought me this vintage Schumacher number:

Terrible pictures, but you get the idea. I didn't hesitate for a second.

Then I started opening my cerebral filing cabinets because I knew there was some inspiration somewhere I had tucked away that would be perfect for how I could use this paper...and I recalled McCarthy's foyer. And it just all made sense.

I don't have tons of this paper, so the wainscoting will help keep the amount I need to a minimum. And you know I love painted molding. The colors in this paper are really lovely, so I have several directions I can go with it. All TBD. All exciting.

Friday Crush

On my radar this week - fabric and textiles from Charleston artist Lulie Wallace. Especially this number - her Florence wallpaper. My love for touches of orchid and lavender will never die! I think this paper would be stunning in a dining room. It's definitely feminine but the colors are fresh and, done right, I think could feel modern and not too soft.

This week...woof. It was a doozy. I hope you (and me) get some peace to recharge and recenter this weekend...see you next week!

Friday Crush

Design by Pencil and Paper Co. via Instagram

Well, HELLO. Citrus Garden by Schumacher is on these walls of perfection. Black + White + Pattern will eternally be a favorite. And that little garden stool is winning on all levels (I have a source for you here). Also, black toilet seats should be on your list. I actually have one forever in my Amazon cart that I have yet to purchase (it's been years) but I need to get on that per this photo.

We have a pretty packed summer weekend ahead...hope you are doing something fun. See you next week!

Friday Crush

Photo by Luke White, Design by Michael Maher, via House Beautiful

My favorite thing here - beside the obvious wallpaper usage - is that mirror hung above the window. It's unexpected and draws your eye up making a tight room feel grand. Love how the headboards neatly tuck into the corners and the overall soothing symmetry of the space.

Enjoy the weekend toasting the mothers in your life. See you next week!

Friday Crush

I reminded myself this week about Griffin and Wong wallpapers...like this one. For the day when I have my grown up house and do adult things like paper walls with scenic landscapes. And this one is giving me a wintry vibe that I wish my real life was giving me. I am not into 60 degrees in January. I adore winter's chill...as Carter notes, I'm an indoor cat.

Have a fabulous weekend. See you next week!

Feathery Fern Wallpaper

Today's find is a feathery fern wallpaper awash in the most beautiful shades of rose, blush, and lilac:

Perfect for a powder room, especially when paired with a bold gold mirror:

Add dynamite sconces and a marble vanity top, and you are in business. #humpdayhelp

Buffalo Check Mudroom Walls

I feel great about this Scalamandre buffalo check wallpaper used in a mudroom. So great that I was willing to post a blurry picture graciously provided to the internet by Holly Mathis Interiors.

I'm all for wainscoting, but I might even prefer this with buffalo plaid all around! But it's Scalamandre so I feel the homeowner on the savings. And it does help curb the vertigo.

But this is ballsy and wonderful.

Is it Gertrude's Plaid by Scalamandre? If you know, hit me up in the comments.

Thibaut Luzon Wallpaper

This is how I can get behind neutral. Thibaut's Luzon wallpaper in this bathroom. Exquisite.

The silvery glow of this bathroom must be beautiful. And that wallpaper is just bananas.

Speaking of bananas...that are yellow...Thibaut's wallpaper also comes in this ridiculous colorway:

I am bookmarking this. Imagine a black and white checkered bathroom floor with this paper on the walls. So, so good. Chinoiserie wallpaper, FTW.

Strawberry Wallpaper

I am completely enchanted by this strawberry wallpaper. If Ana Claire had her own bathroom, this would go up on the walls immediately.

It's by Spoonflower artist thislittlestreet....which means that it also comes in fabric. This could be ridiculous as bedding, wallpaper, and window treatments in one of those rooms that picks a pattern and uses it everywhere. Do we like those rooms? Sometimes I do.

Anyway, those strawberries are everything. I am very loyal to the combination of red and pink, so this pushes all of my buttons.

In other news, this seller also has this little number that is equally fantastic if you are a cactus lover:

But I'm still eyeing those strawberries. #love

Studio Apartment Design from Katie Rosenfeld

Decided to check in on one of my favorite designers - Katie Rosenfeld - and the new-to-me images in her portfolio did NOT disappoint.

Like this phenomenal studio apartment. Would have been a dream to live in a space like this when I was single and fancy-free.

I love the creativity that goes into a small space - using every nook and cranny to make a space feel vibrant and bigger in personality than its square footage suggests.

The Vase wallpaper in a small kitchen is brilliant. And the freedom of a small space is you can splurge on that expensive paper because you don't have much wall to cover!

So much inspiration here...Katie is a master in deliciously vibrant and warm spaces. She owns color and nothing she designs ever feels stuffy.

Check out more of her work here...

Friday Crush

Design by Ashely Whittaker, Photo by Beatriz da Costa for House Beautiful

This is just really catching my eye at the moment. It's warm, masculine, striking and back to warm. That star pendant is setting it off that Clarence House paper (Tibet). When I grow up, I definitely want a house with a butler's pantry or bar area like this...a little break from the rest of the house that I can glam up any way I please. And can you see the ultra feminine dining room at the back? Love the juxtaposition.

I'm literally shocked it's November. And for some reason it's 80 degrees today which is completely unacceptable. I love Fall but start to get sad when I realize it's progressing too quickly for me to enjoy. Must slow down and smell the leaves...but we have lots to do on Mac's nursery this weekend. Hoping to have a couple of posts lined up in the coming weeks to let you in on the plan. Have a great weekend...see you next week!

Friday Crush

image via de Gournay

Let's be clear that the healthy dose of orange seen throughout the month of October is one of the main reasons it's my favorite month. That and it's my birthday month. And this image is a display of my heart's affection for these fall days. I'm so happy they are here.

And this weekend is going to be deliciously crisp and sunny - read: great hair days ahead and I won't sweat in my new suede boots. Hope you have a great autumnal weekend...see you next week!

Lemons Removable Wallpaper

File this under things you should know about: removable wallpaper.

Specifically this one, with lemons dancing among tones of fleshy nude and dusty mint:

Are you a Rifle Paper Co. fangirl like me? Rejoice! This paper is definitely in that style (thought NOT by RPC!)

In general, this removable wallpaper thing is very intriguing - I heard about it a while ago (I think when Spoonflower started selling the concept) and it only recently surfaced in my brain as I need some for a little project at home - a project that only requires a tiny bit of paper in a spot where I don't  want high commitment (read: easy to take it down if needed). I didn't go with this one above but I'm interested to see how it goes up and looks when complete. Will fill you in on the deets when I get to it.

Do you like this lemon situation? I am heart-eyed-emoji about it. PERFECT for a nursery or little girl's room.

Friday Crush

I have always been a lover of Quadrille's Climbing Hydrangea wallpaper and this design by Tilton Fenwick with the lavender colorway is just completely delightful. Lavender + green might be my favorite color combination of all time. And this composition is just perfect, perfect for a child's space with that adorable bunny lamp.

Happy that the weekend is here so I can catch up a bit on the mundane tasks of life after being away on vacation. Hope it's a good one for you...see you next week!

Friday Crush

House & Garden U.K. via Chinoiserie Chic

Eye-popping arrangement. I caught this over on my daily read Chinoiserie Chic and it was a catch-my-breath moment. THE COLORS! Candy colors against a traditional wall and sofa...if I could, I would load this sentence up with heart emojis.

We are baptizing our sweet Mac this weekend. Of course, his first soiree landed during one of my busiest weeks at work so I'm a teensy weensy bit frazzled going into this weekend. We will be hosting brunch and celebrating with our family and I just can't wait to hold my darling boy over that baptismal font. Hope you have a wonderful weekend...see you next week!

Friday Crush

My absolute favorite find of the whole Greenbrier trip was this BANANAS cherry wallpaper by Carleton Varney called Kate's Mountain Berries. They had it for sale in one of the gift shops and I wanted to bring rolls and rolls of it home with me and paper every single surface with it. And let's discuss how perfect it is for Christmas! It might be inspiring my Christmas card this year. I'm adding it to my dream wallpaper wishlist (imagine a powder room with black and white tile and a red pagoda lantern!)

As you can see, I'm still riding my Greenbrier high and plan to do so as long as humanly possible. Grateful for a nice weekend at home, though. Hope you have a great weekend...see you next week!

Friday Crush

A delightful vignette from Lucas/Eilers Design via Twitter from a home on Kiawah Island featuring Acanthus Stripe wallpaper from Celerie Kemble for Schumacher. Where would you begin here? I'm at a bit of a loss...the wallpaper is incredibly fantastic but can we talk about the patterned floor? And all of the rich wood tones? And of course the beautiful pottery that looks absolutely perfect here. I would be quite pleased if this was the entry of my lowcountry home.

Fall is in full swing and we might attempt a pumpkin patch this weekend. Hope you have a great one...see you next week!

Friday Crush

There is so much I love about this door which is sporting Aranami, a wallpaper from Farrow & Ball's new collection. I seriously can't get enough of a good jade green (the paint color is Arsenic No. 214) and I LOVE how the wallpaper is used on the door - a great idea for using wallpaper in small doses. I'm also pretty smitten with that duck.

Speaking of Farrow & Ball, the purveyor of high-end paints and wallpapers is opening a new DC showroom right near my office in Friendship Heights. They are having an opening soiree on September 18th to celebrate - details below. I believe its open to anyone, just RSVP.  I'm hoping to attend so maybe see you there?
