The jaw-dropper of the week, likely the month (at least). Designed by Miles Redd. Not surprising.

I can't tell you how I've been turning this color scheme around in my head for a couple of weeks. I have a pair of what are essentially light blue curtains with tiny touches of some darker colors and I just decided that to make them pack a punch, I need to pull out the olive green in a big way. And then this image popped up on Schumacher's Insta  and I was done for. Serious perfection. 

This space is in NO way near what I'm working with (#understatement) but boy is it inspiring. ALL the shades of green with varying shades of blue anchored by black, white, and gold. Thank you internet!

Fall. Hallelujah. Though we'll be struggling with some high 80s until next weekend, but I see the end in sight. I'm already hoarding my pumpkin candles but I refuse to light them until our weather holds steady at least in the 70s. It's my annual ritual. Enjoy your weekend. See you next week!

Friday Crush

Per our conversation yesterday re: Miles Redd + Ballard, I couldn't let this inspo image slip our notice. I will say, when you view the product catalog it feels a bit stale because the upholstered pieces are all in their virgin, non-customized form. But this image is a great depiction of what this collection becomes once you start customizing. That wallpaper (which Ballard carries as a fabric) is on my current top 10 list - it's called Mira Blue.

I haven't had a decorating project in our own house for years. But with baby boy approaching, it looks like a big boy room for Mac is on the horizon. And I might actually finish up Mac's current nursery just in time for his little brother's arrival. I'm looking at fabrics to get inspired...happy to be back in the saddle of my own decorating again.

Catalog Pick: Buckley Swivel Glider

You should be fully aware that Miles Redd has a collection for Ballard Designs. And within said collection is my dream nursery chair - the Buckley Swivel Glider - a distinguished rocker with a lovely pleated skirt.

And if you'd like to kill some time today, go ham using Ballard's (amazing) customization tool that lets you test drive a variety of fabric/welt combinations. Here are some of mine:

I played it straight and just did the main welt, but using Ballard's tool, you can also customize the seat fabric, the back panel fabric, and the skirt fabric...it's mind-blowing.

Bless a retailer who dabbles in such customization as it really lets you create design magic without having to hunt down all the fabric + the upholsterer to do it for you. Not to mention that being able to instantly see a rendition of your ideas ranks very very high on the gratification scale.

This might be my favorite thing on the Internet right now.

Friday Crush

As the impending snow approaches, I wouldn't mind being holed up in a sumptuous country mansion like this one. I like that apple green, turquoise, and animal print are made to feel so fancy in this space.  And I love the black fireplace mantel (is that granite?) Wouldn't be the same if that was white painted wood. 

There will be plenty of fires in our fireplace this weekend, albeit not as fancy as this one. We are stocked with wine and food so as long as we keep our power, we should be good to ride out the blizzard. Hope you stay toasty, safe and warm this weekend. See you next week!

Friday Crush

Friends, there is much to catch you up on. I'm in the midst of a decorating blitzkrieg (and I'm using lots of red, hence the image selection above). After being slightly dormant for a bit (mostly due to the birth of my second human), I suddenly find myself in a whirlwind of projects - some my own and a big one for a client.

And it feels goooood.

It's all happened so quickly that I haven't had a moment to put together blog posts but I will. I'm giving myself the holiday weekend to regroup but I'm hoping to have interesting tidbits to share on the blog this fall. Mac's nursery! A basement renovation! Our updated master bath! And more!

We are going to wiggle our toes in the sand one last time this weekend and then, hallelujah, it will be Fall. I hope you have some wonderful plans for the long weekend. See you next week!

Not sure if I'm more excited about my own announcement this week or Schumacher's - Miles Redd will be debuting a fabric line with them this fall!

I'm always thrilled to hear about designer collaborations with my favorite fabric lines - though occasionally I'm left a bit underwhelmed, I know the Redd-Schumacher combo is a winner. Miles Redd is just pure decorating genius...this line will be sensational and I will be anxiously awaiting its arrival. Read more about it here...

Thank you for the warm wishes about Baby Boy Shuffler this week! I'm so happy that you are in the know. I'm also thrilled Fall has unofficially arrived, though you wouldn't know it with the 90+ degree temps we've been having here. But I'm sure the end is in sight and I can go back to my uniform of (maternity) leggings and boots all day, every day.

Miles Redd Bed

My tour of "this-is-what-caught-my-eye-in-those-magazines-this-weekend" continues...

This pagoda bed in a Chinoiserie bedroom by Miles Redd is sensational. Truly sensational.

What strikes me most about this room is the arrangement of this majestic bed against a small-ish wall. I think most would aim to put this bed against a large expanse of wall due to its proportions.  But I think this placement adds to its richness and scale. That's a trick I like to use in our house - putting large pieces in smaller spaces...it adds to the drama.

I also love this room because it's by Miles Redd. Do you have a designer who you feel has the midas touch? Just about everything they do is fantastic in your book? I have a short list, and MR is certainly on it.

Veranda

Ok, I know I'm late to the game on this one, but the cover of the current issue of Veranda is epic.

After all the buzz about the magazine's refreshed content now that Dara Caponigro has taken over as EIC, as well as all the images I have seen of the insane spaces by Miles Redd in this issue, I had to get my hands on it (though a bit late). I finally picked up my copy last night at the grocery store (whilst elbowing old ladies for a turkey) and cringed when the bag boy put it next to the wet OJ bottle.

I might be framing this cover. I love that it is clear of typography (except for the name, obvi). The color combination is a complete thrill to look at. The floor, the mirror and everything that is holy and good about Miles Redd sings to me from this cover.

A subscription to Veranda (which I used to have) is zooming to the top of my Christmas list.

Friday Crush

Did you see this gorgeous space floating around blogland this week? It's in the Lee Jofa showroom at the NYC D&D Building and was designed by Miles Redd to show off LJ's new Oscar de la Renta Home collection. I'm a green nut, and I think deep shades of green are so sophisticated...those lamps are incredible. And I love the artwork next to the bed. Read more about the room on Kravet's blog here...

A Small Task, Accomplished

We had a very productive weekend. Carter helped me accomplish a slew of small tasks, which mainly involved hanging things on our walls. After 1+ years of being in the house, we still mostly have blank walls so every room feels unfinished. My goal this weekend was to start to remedy that.

One task on our list was to finally hang my plate rack in the dining room. This plate rack used to hold our wedding china in our last place, but I now have my wedding china stacked on our bar cart, so I picked up some informal plates to display (that I can also now circle in/out with my wedding china to create different looks).

I found a set of four blue and white porcelain dinner plates at HomeGoods. They were inexpensive and decorated in a pagoda theme, so they were perfect for the space (the centerpiece of my dining table is an oversized, blue/white ginger jar and the seats of my two head chairs are upholstered in blue/white pagoda fabric).

On a trip to Lucketts a while back, I found the most beautiful set of floral dessert plates in shades of green, chartreuse, lavender, plum and white - the exact shades of my dining room. My original thought was actually to put the blue and white plates on one rack, and the dessert plates on their own separate rack, but then I thought - why not combine them?

And I'm glad I did because I like the finished result:

You can't really see the pagodas on the blue/white set of plates, but I like that the geometric pattern of these plates frames the dessert plates so well.

It took us all of five minutes to get the plate rack up, but it was just one of those things that hadn't made it to the top of our list for months. And now, the room feels almost complete (just need to hem some curtains).

The little plate rack project also reminded me of my love for mismatched china. I love contrasting patterns used together in almost anything, but especially plates. It gives your table an interesting, layered look. Granted, I also love a full set of immaculately matched china, but mixing it up is always beautiful.

A Touch of Horn

I love a touch of horn in a room. I'm slowly amassing a little collection of horn accessories because every time I see something that's horn, I tend to bring it home.

Case in point, these horn pencil cups below. I picked them up on a recent OKL sale and I plan to use them as bud vases. They are lovely (and by Frances Stoia if you want to Google your own):

I also have a small ivory horn and wood keepsake box and matching picture frame in our bedroom and a small horn-handled magnifying glass in our living room. I find horn to be a chic touch in almost any space.

Remember this t-d-f Manhattan apartment by Miles Redd? He used a horn paint treatment on the door casing, baseboard, and ceiling molding of the bedroom. Genius. I'm in love with these images:
