New from Megan Young

I always have my eye on Megan Young, one of my favorite designers. What appeals to me about Megan's work is her ability to mix the very traditional so it feels modern.

Virtually every element in these spaces is traditional, yet by mixing styles, scale, fabrics and colors, Megan creates really fresh spaces that certainly feel classic but not at all stuffy. That is a skill. And she has mastered it.

Above photos are from Megan's website from a New Jersey home that I have yet to see (I tend to stalk her website) so I was thrilled to set my eyes on some of her additional work.

New from Megan Young

I love checking a favorite designer's website and finding new photos in their portfolio. Just did a little sweep of Megan Young's (such a talent!) and found some pretty images where she is really working the jewel tones:

Love the tones of berry aubergine with chartreuse. It takes a very trusting client to say yes to a "purple" couch but I think the result in that second picture is stunning. Feels incredibly fresh, yet traditional so the colors are not overpowering. A great balance.

A Red Window

A tasty Tuesday morsel from one of my favorites, Megan Young Designs:

I am completely digging red these days. It's one of those colors that I haven't really used in interiors or otherwise. But since the arrival of Ana Claire, I'm finding the pretty in red. I think it's sweet for a baby yet completely gorgeous and stunning when used in large doses like this window. And the shape of that pelmet box...so striking!

LOVE red paired with green too...it's not just for Christmas!

Friday Crush

Remember when we talked about painted dressers? I held one photo back. Go nuts over this painted piece expertly placed by the talented Megan Young. LOVE.

I am off to celebrate three decades of living with my beautiful bffs. Enjoy your weekend and see you Monday.

A Living Room via Megan Young

Let's just start this week right, shall we? None of the Monday blues, folks. Look at this image and revel in the fact that beauty exists. A totally "winning" space by Megan Young. Definitely one of my current favorite designers, this MY.

This room is more my speed when it comes to neutrals. It's blanketed in tones of ivory, but color plays a key role in keeping things interesting. Diamond jute (I assume) carpet, brass, cobalt blue lamp, touch of animal print and Chinoiserie reflected in that glorious mirror - all combine to elevate the neutral backdrop to something eclectic and special.

Start your week off with a bang!

Friday Crush

Crushing on Friday courtesy of Megan Young Designs. I must say that I have grown to love the color blue. It has never been my favorite, but I've started to use it as an accent color and like the results. This room has the perfect shade of blue in the roman shade, rug and patterned chairs. Not a primary blue, not a baby blue...almost has a touch of periwinkle. And Megan is a master at mixing so many elements to create a layered look that is still pulled together. I love this space - this would be my ideal family room.

Can't believe it's Friday - this week just flew by. Have a fabulous weekend...see you Monday!

Thursday Crush

Design by: Megan Young

Why I like it: I double dog dare you to point out something in this room I don't like. The cockatoo upholstery on the chairs? No. The tortoise end table? No. Oh, I know. The orange patterned rug. Heck no. Then it must the Chinoiserie figurine lamps or the lion-ish foo dogs on the lucite coffee table. No, no and more no. This room is terrific. Truly.

Headboards from MY

I love a custom headboard, don't you? I think a headboard can be a beautiful focal point for a bedroom - and if it is big and bold enough, you can keep everything else in the room tame (and inexpensive) and still have showstopper sleeping quarters.

Megan Young took center stage yesterday, but I'm not quite done - she designs knock-out rooms but also offers a custom headboard service, and her results are gorgeous! After seeing these beauties, I'm majorly inspired to get out the plywood and a staple gun, but I'm not sure my results would be as stunning as these:

 The Garcia

The Linden

The Nathaniel

The Liza

The Kelly

The Kelly (with buttons)

The Betsy

And my personal favorite...
The Simpson
with its pagoda-like silhouette - would be perfect with a geometric fretwork pattern in a bright color of one of my beloved Chinoiserie silhouette fabrics...oh my.

If you're interested in one of MY's custom headboards, check out here website - http://meganyoungdesigns.com/. UPDATE: Amanda gave me the scoop that Megan designs these lovelies for anyone! So feel free to contact her, no matter your location.

Megan Young

Woah.

Thank you, Southern Living, for introducing me to Megan Young. I've said it before, but I find myself eagerly awaiting my So Li each month to check out the home section, as they have been featuring some great designers and spaces...and this month was no exception!

Megan Young's colorful, ecclectic and gorgeous home in North Carolina was featured...and it's a doozy. The picture up top is actually from her portfolio, but here are images of her own home, featured in the mag:

Woah.

Woah.

And more woah.

I'm in love. This home is SO wonderful - every room is vibrant, sophisticated, classic and young at the same time. I think Megan's use of color is perfect - and her philosophy is near to my own heart - use what you love!

Well, I'm downright enamored with MY, if you can't tell, and went running off to her portfolio and it did NOT disappoint. She is so talented.

Check out this eye candy (I went a little nuts with pictures again...I just wanted to show them all!):

Some more from her own home in NC:

Are you loving Megan's gasp-inducing aesthetic as much as I do?? I have comments for every picture I posted, but for lack of time, I'll let you enjoy them sans commentary.

Megan started working in NYC, went to design school there and worked wtih Alex Papachristidis before making the switch to North Carolina (which I believe was her home) and starting her own firm.

I will certainly be keeping my eye on her work...I'm sure there is more to come from her!
