Captain Obvious

Remember when I said that all shades of lavumchid (lavender/plum/orchid) are having a moment?

I just wanted to be real obvious about it and show you the October covers of House Beautiful, Elle Decor and Veranda.

I died at the cover of HB when it hit my mailbox last week - a green and plum Chinoiserie dining room! And I noted the hip use of lavender on the cover, which prompted me to write that post last week. And then Elle D came. And then Veranda. And then I realized that all is right with the world.

I have not always been a lavumchid lover...until I realized it was the perfect color to use against the green in my dining room. That began my love affair two years ago. I tend to adore it as an accent color more than the main event. But damn it's chic.

I haven't dived into these issues yet, but I'm so looking forward to it.

Friday Crush

Photo by Peter Vitale via Veranda

Thought I would kick off your weekend with an eyeful. How bananas is this space? I'll be honest - I actually don't like the animal print, skirted, tufted, pink situation in the center of the room. But if you were to remove it, I think the room is wonderful. I especially adore the pair of lamps and the oversized artwork. I've never seen an exaggerated-scale piece of colorful modern art that I did not like. And this one is huge. Design by William Eubanks and Mitchell Brown for Veranda's show house at Greystone Estate.

Have the loveliest of weekends. See you Monday!

Pink Walls

Photography by Rene Stoeltie published in Veranda

Pink walls can look amazing, as seen in this room by Roberto Bergero, published in April's issue of Veranda. The bold color against the intricate white molding is striking. Though I don't think I could go this bold in my own home, I am always drawn to strong hues of pink. To me, this particular shade of hot pink is executed so well because it is balanced with very traditional elements, which keep the look modern. Beautiful!

Hope you had a lovely 4th of July.

Veranda

Ok, I know I'm late to the game on this one, but the cover of the current issue of Veranda is epic.

After all the buzz about the magazine's refreshed content now that Dara Caponigro has taken over as EIC, as well as all the images I have seen of the insane spaces by Miles Redd in this issue, I had to get my hands on it (though a bit late). I finally picked up my copy last night at the grocery store (whilst elbowing old ladies for a turkey) and cringed when the bag boy put it next to the wet OJ bottle.

I might be framing this cover. I love that it is clear of typography (except for the name, obvi). The color combination is a complete thrill to look at. The floor, the mirror and everything that is holy and good about Miles Redd sings to me from this cover.

A subscription to Veranda (which I used to have) is zooming to the top of my Christmas list.
