Friday Crush

Let's kick off the holiday weekend with this feast for your eyeballs. Designed by Society Social and found on Quadrille's Insta, this vignette is pastel perfection. Why does lavender have such an effect on me? But it always does. This is bringing more of a Spring feel than a Fall one, but I'll take it.

We are going to enjoy one last beach hurrah and then it will be time to welcome FALL. Thank the heavens. I'm not of the summer variety so I'm ready to move on. Hope you have a great holiday weekend - see you next week!

Quadrille Macao Nursery by Madre

Very happy to make the acquaintance of the Madre Instagram account. And this nursery. It showcases one of my all-time, all-time favorite fabrics - Macao from Quadrille. Set atop spotted wallpaper and peachy-pink baseboard (and I'll assume molding?) this nursery is incredibly fantastic. I'm also in love with the lavender trim on that crib bumper. 🙌

Meanwhile, the designing women at Madre have some charming design chops...those in Dallas may want to inquire.

Friday Crush

Design by Kathy Abbott

Love the juxtaposition of these bright chairs sporting Quadrille's Jacaranda with the natural-toned elements in the room. I think when you fearlessly mix in whimsy like this, it ups the luxury factor of your space.

Have been fighting the onset of a cold all week...I'm ready for a break. Hope you have a fabulous weekend...see you next week!

Design Tension

Years ago, I dragged Carter to a talk by designer Michael Smith at the Corcoran Gallery.
Michael had many gems of wisdom to share but the key take-away that stuck with Carter Shuffler (and me) was his thought on "tension".

Michael preached that every space should have some sort of tension - something that isn't quite right to, in a way, throw the room off and engage the eye.

Like this lamp. I think in the land of "perfect" design, a gold or white gourd lamp would be great, yes? But taking this black/gold/gray vignette and adding a blue and white porcelain lamp with a boho lavender pleated shade make the space come to life. A lamp. That's all it took to take this space from lovely to spectacular.

This though has stuck with me (and Carter) for years now and I think it's such a great little piece of advice...just as you wrap up a space, ask yourself what your tension is. If everything feels perfectly placed and in harmony maybe you need to edit something to give it some gusto.

p.s. That is Quadrille's Zebra Embroider fabric on the chair and it is a new favorite! I'm such a huge fan of black and white. I think this pattern on a chair would work in almost any room as a neutral. And the wallpaper is Quadrille's Persia Wallpaper.

French Blue on Fleek

Popped in on a favorite portfolio - that of designer Liz Caan - and fell in love with this whimsical, sophisticated, french blue youngster's bedroom:

Critter print done right, Quadrille wallpaper/fabric (Arbre de Matisse Reverse), buffalo check, contrast welts, Leontine Linens, and the most delicious pop of raspberry. IT'S ALL HERE.

Color can really be your story in a space. I think it's challenging to decorate this way (simple and tailored is always harder for me) but the results can be gorgeous. And this shade of blue is completely on fleek, which is the same thing as on point, for your information.

See more of Liz Caan's wonderful work on her website...

Friday Crush

I have always been a lover of Quadrille's Climbing Hydrangea wallpaper and this design by Tilton Fenwick with the lavender colorway is just completely delightful. Lavender + green might be my favorite color combination of all time. And this composition is just perfect, perfect for a child's space with that adorable bunny lamp.

Happy that the weekend is here so I can catch up a bit on the mundane tasks of life after being away on vacation. Hope it's a good one for you...see you next week!

Henry & Co. + Quadrille

I have obviously been living under a rock because I am only now seeing this AMAZING room design by Henry & Co. for the Traditional Home Hampton Designer Showhouse 2014 featuring one of my all-time favorite Quadrille fabrics - Macao II.

This is some serious Woah:

Has this been all over important blogs/mags and I'm late reporting? Because sometimes I fall off the media train and I know the blogging world is rapid-fire with this kind of genius but for the sake of posterity this space needed to make its way to AO. Damn, it's good.

A study in bold color...it's mesmerizing. I can't stop staring. Those walls are something fierce and I just love how all of the elements are coming together.

Here are some softer shots from Henry & Co's Instagram feed:

Gah! Give me all of it! What kind of home would this be in? Vacation house? Upscale Manhattan apartment?  Charleston townhouse? I'm not sure...where would you envision it?

Extreme beauty exists in this world, y'all.

Yellow

image via Quadrille (designer/photog, anyone?)

I do not gravitate toward yellow. Not because I don't understand its merits, but it's just never a color I want anywhere. Until I designed Ana Claire's nursery and yellow was the ONLY choice for her dresser. It was a no brainer and, thus, the first dose of true yellow was introduced to our house.

Since then, it's poppped up in a couple of projects and I'm finding that I really dig using it with earthy neutrals. Tan, taupe, brown and gold...yellow and gold is an AMAZING combo (I put gold bamboo pulls on AC's yellow dresser and I stared at it for a couple of days it was so good). Try it.

Above image features Quadrille's Sigourney wallpaper in a crazy pretty neutral paired with delectable pops of yellow and it's totally working for me.

Do you use yellow? How do you like it?

Friday Crush

Design by John Knott and John Fondas, photo by Bjorn Wallander, via housebeautiful.com

You guys, IT FEELS LIKE FALL!!!! This whole week the weather in the DC area has been nothing but crisp and delicious and I've been tempted to break out my boots. Seriously, nothing makes me happier than the transition to autumn and I came across this warm, cinnamon-dusted hallway in this spectacular Maine home featured by House Beautiful and it spoke to my eagerness for fall to arrive. And that is some amazing wallpaper - Vanderpoel Stripe by Quadrille.

Have a fantastic weekend...see you next week!

China Seas Macao

I have rediscovered this amazing fabric from China Seas...Macao II. The colors are amazing and the floral is spectacular...

Look at the decadence of using this fabric for upholstery! An entire couch in the lilac colorway is just mind-blowing...I love it so much. I think the lilac is definitely my favorite - the color pairing is so exuberant but feels so sophisticated.

Do you have a favorite?

Friday Crush

Did you hear the news from here and here that Jack Rogers has teamed up with Quadrille to create some bananas beautiful Navajo sandals? I literally LIVE in my JRs over the summer. They have been my go to sandal for as long as I can remember...so once I heard Quadrille and Jack Rogers were combining efforts it was mind-blowing.

The sandals are awesome and you can buy them at Piperlime here and here. BUT, I didn't know JR was also creating some resort wear with Quadrille - check out the above dress, the "Tessa," that uses Turtle Batik - so cute! I spotted it on Rue La La yesterday and it's unfortunately sold out, but now we know that dresses exist so keep a look-out! I think the model should look a little more excited.

Have a fab weekend...see you Monday!

Friday Crush

If you follow Grant K. Gibson on Twitter, you likely saw this sneak peek he posted yesterday of a recent project. I can only hope this is an incredible dining room where he's paired Quadrille's Paradise Garden on chairs atop a gorgeous geometric Stark carpet. I absolutely love the color combo of pink, aqua and taupe. GORGEOUS!

Hope you have a beautiful weekend! See you Monday!

Quadrille Patchwork Pouf

This Morrocan pouf cover is made from a patchwork of Quadrille fabrics....I spot many of my favorites. What a brilliant idea by Etsy seller MarleyMaterial. If you have $475 burning a hole in your pocket, consider spending it here (keep in mind that Quadrille fabric is really pricey).

We all know this because we read design blogs, but I'm not sure other humans know that you can find so many pillows, pillow covers, and sometimes poufs on Etsy made from all of the high-end fabric designers. Schumacher, Kravet, Brunschwig - most of the hip fabrics are available and pillows are a great way to add a designer fabric to your home without spending hundreds on yardage. Check out my ideabook on Houzz that rounds up several designer pillows available on Etsy...

Paradise

Alright KG and Averill...you were right! I was totally lovin' on those orange chairs in yesterday's picture...the upholstery fabric to be exact. My blog friends know me well...

I have an ardent passion for Quadrille fabric - I love the stuff.  The color palettes of Q's various lines coupled with so many Chinoiserie options are enough to make a girl crazy (in a good way). But I have a dedication to one particular pattern, Paradise Background:

The Chinoiserie silhouette pops against such beautiful colors. Any time I see this fabric used in a room, it sings to me (at the top of its lungs). Check out some PB usage:

Chloe Warner used Pistachio on Tint

Can't remember where this pic is from, but the cube is covered in Raspberry on Tint.

And lets not forget how Kendall Wilkinson used Orange on Tint (my obvious favorite) in this iconic bedroom

And another bedroom that is becoming iconic by Meg Braff who chose the beautifully neutral Taupe on Tint (doesn't Taupe on Tint just roll off the tongue?)

I never tire of rooms that use Paradise Background...it's just so lovely. But it's also quite pricey so my little hands have yet to get a hold of any to use in my home.

But, a month or two ago, I had a ray of sunshine enter my life during one of my many, many fabric searches. No, I didn't find PB for $4.99 on eBay, but I did find a rather similar fabric that is quite afforable - Crystal Lake Amber by Robert Allen @ Home:

Amber

Midnight

Lacquer

Bed dressed in Amber

The color palette is a bit darker than PB's, but it still uses a beautiful Chinoiserie silhouette - and for $27.93/yard available here, it's a price that I can live with until I attain PB status.
