John Robshaw for College

Rewind.

Did you know John Robshaw has a collection for Target? Is this super old news that outs me as someone totally out of touch with the world? (Because I am, though I try to look like I'm not)

Well, I was cruising Target aisles this weekend and caught a glimpse of this sensational John Robshaw quilt:

This picture doesn't do the quilt's pattern justice - it's the loveliest shade of light blue with a white pattern.

Before you get too excited (like I did)...it appears this bedding collection is only for those of us who are college-bound and will sleep in a Twin XL for 1-4 years. Bummer.

Like most collections, I probably wouldn't match it ALL like some of these photos suggest...but picking up just the quilt or a pillow or two would really be a great addition to a space.

Catalog Pick: Lexington Applique Duvet

It's not often that catalog bedding gets me excited. I find the matching sets to be overwhelming and I prefer simple beds dressed in mostly white or neutrals with pattern confined to a pillow or bedskirt.

But a recent review of Ballard Design's current offerings showed me some bedding that strikes the right balance of crisp and decorative. Check out the Lexington Applique Duvet and Sham:

Love, love, love the hue of the applique. Looks to be somewhere between an aloe green and a blue-gray aqua. And I love how they've paired the duvet with the matelasse quilt. I would probably do the duvet with the euro shams and then do something else that coordinates for standard shams (or just use the sheets for the standard pillows).

Scalloped Bed Coverlet

Notice the white walls...they totally work here. The green hues of this room totally pop and become quite a design statement against the clean backdrop. This room would be stunning for two little girls to share...so crisp and sweet.

But what caught my eye is the scalloped coverlet on the beds...it's the same one I'm using on the twin bed in the nursery! It's Matouk's Le Scallop coverlet and I selected mine with pink trim. If I had that money tree in the yard I would have splashed it with a huge monogram, but alas...it is monogram free to save some cash. But I did get the matching neckroll sham and had that puppy monogrammed in bright red!

I love the coverlet's sweet simplicity and details and love how it's used in a double dose in this room.

More Turkish Toile

Did you catch this chair on One Kings Lane yesterday? It features the Turkish Toile fabric I blogged about last week...look at how gorgeous!

I can't get over the colors and the large pattern of this toile. It is simply stunning on a chair like this one.

Seems other manufacturers are keen on the fabric as well - I spotted it as bedding from a couple of retailers. Defining Elegance sells bedding in the green/blue colorway:

And Horchow has bedding in the yellow/taupe colorway:

The bedding is bananas expensive...I have a feeling you could buy the yardage and have a seamstress make it for cheaper but I'm sure the quality of these online bed linens is superb.

Chinoiserie Shams

I was recently introduced to the "loungerie" line Plum Pretty Sugar (thanks, MJ!) and I can't get over this dreamy, feminine and sweet line of robes, apparel and home textiles. Those pillow shams have to be some of the most beautiful Chinoiserie pieces you can buy for your bed (and there are matching duvets). They remind me of de Gournay. The pink one is likely my favorite but if you got the blue one, you could rock out in this stunning matching kimono robe...

And if you had a daughter, she could rock out with you in her own matching loungerie...

So adorable, right? Chinoiserie for the whole family!

p.s. I used to think Mommy & Me outfits were a little nutty...and now I don't.

Pretty Bedding for Spring

What do you do around your house when Spring hits? Washingtonian.com asked me and several other DC-area bloggers this question and, for me, it seems to change every year, but I consistently feel an urge to pretty-up my surroundings around this time. Spring feels like the most feminine season to me.

This year, I'm seriously (seriously) craving girly bedding. Monograms, scallops, embroidery, etc. When it gets just a tad warm in our house, I want to kick off all the duvets and blankets and recently I've wanted to also replace everything with something sweet and delicate.

And I just found an awesome source for bedding the other day in the form of a catalog (sidenote: I love getting random catalogs in the mail and discovering a new-to-me source). Check out this gorgeous bedding from Schweitzer Linen:

It's so pretty and most of the sets come in a range of colors. The price points are still a bit high like other luxury linen brands, but I like that they offer their pieces individually - this lets you buy just shams or maybe just a top sheet that you can then mix in with more affordable pieces. I'm saving my pennies for a scalloped king-size sham that I will use as a center boudoir pillow on my guest bed.

Their website is a little cumbersome to navigate, so I would suggest starting with their catalog, which you can download online (link at the bottom of the home page). And don't forget to check out what other lovely bloggers had to say about Spring in their own homes.

Leontine Heaven

This is what heaven looks like. Leontine Linens as far as the eye can see...

I had the immense pleasure of attending a little Leontine Linens "trunk show" hosted by Sally Steponkus. It was a religious experience. The thrill of seeing such divine monograms on equally exquisite linens was a supreme way to pass an afternoon.

And look at Sally's gorgeous bed:

There are no words for what this looked like in person.

I finally pulled yet another trigger - I'm the proud new mama of fingertip towels in the Rayford mono:

I opted for a french blue applique on white terry and it's going to be bananas beautiful. I know y'all were partial to the Maxwell in this decision, but it wasn't available for the size towel I chose.

But do not fret. I left a very healthy Christmas wishlist with Jenny, my new Leontine liaison.

Two Beds, One Headboard

I have always gushed about my love for twin beds in a guest bedroom. And this interpretation by Tom Scheerer gave me one more reason to love the arrangement:

That shared headboard is wicked awesome (don't they say "wicked" in the Northeast? This home is in Maine).  Sometimes I am under the impression that twin beds only really work in a rather spacious room, but this headboard allows them to share a rather teeny wall quite well.

And on another note, I don't think you will ever convince me that an upholstered headboard and matching bedskirt are not chic. To me, the combo will always be fashionable. And I'm a huge, huge fan of tucked in blankets and simple coverlets...I sometimes love a plain, "non-puffy" bed for its simplicity. Like I won't drown in a pile of feathers while I'm sleeping.

Another West Elm Duvet

West Elm did it again. I have seen another duvet that has me thinking I may need to redesign a bedroom in our house. Actually, this is the exact duvet I would choose for my non-existent beach house...the colors are perfect for a seaside retreat!

Fretwork Bedding

Another fun catalog find for you. Have you seen this fretwork bedding available from The Company Store?

Of course the orange are my favorite, but the blue pattern would be killer in a blue and white Chinoiserie bedroom. They offer the pattern in sheet sets, but also in a reversible duvet, though I would just pick one place to use it and mix it in with other bedding.

Dream Duvet

I love my bedroom, but the other day I did a double take when I saw this duvet:

For a hot second (or maybe 30 painful minutes) I SERIOUSLY considered redoing my whole bedroom just to make room for this duvet in my life. I'm not really a bedding girl - I prefer white sheets and white duvets and look for blankets, bedskirts and pillows to give the bed pizazz.

But, oh, this duvet. I'm not particularly fond of anything it is styled with in this picture. I would love to pair it with a lavender blanket and some golden lamps. And something  jade green. I can't get over it.

In other news, I might actually get this one for my office/guest bedroom:

Nice work, West Elm. I like your bedding.

Bedskirts

I had a thought on bedskirts. I think a lot of people see them as an afterthought, which is a shame. I'm assuming this of others, but I find that many people pick out bedding and bedroom textiles that they love and then pick a bedskirt that will play a supporting role as demurely as possible. They don't really want the bedskirt to be noticed.

And, to be fair, many bedskirts are pretty heinous and can quickly render your gorgeous bedroom ugly. But, I actually prefer bedrooms where bedskirts play a leading role. I subscribe to the school of thought that bedding should be white and pretty simple, so for me, the bedskirt is the perfect place to add some color or pattern.

This picture below is what got me thinking about this. I love the bedskirts in this room by Phoebe Howard. Their deeper tone and fullness draw your eye and make the room for me. If the skirts were blah and toned down, this room would be missing its magic.

In our own bedroom, our bed actually doesn't work well with a traditional bedskirt, so I opted for a boxspring cover. But, the idea was the same to use the bottom portion of the bed as an opportunity for pattern. If I did something plain to cover the boxspring, I think this room would lack some pizzazz.

So, if you are decorating your bedroom, think of the bedskirt as an opportunity! That's my message for the day.

PB Chinoiserie on eBay

Every now and again, Pottery Barn showcases a pattern (typically in bedding and/or pillows) that catches my eye...a while back (I think it may have been years?) this to-die-for bedding graced their catalog...

Do you remember it? I obviously went wild for it with its Chinoiserie theme (in a silhouette no less) and it's bold orange colorway...I was in love. But, I didn't get it because I'm sure it was oodles of money and not "practical" (I was naive).

So, like many things, I forgot about this pattern as time has passed but a recent eBay search inadvertently brought this bedding up in a search result, and all of those old feelings came back. I crushed once more...

I can't get over the orange. And it has me seriously rethinking every bedroom in my house, but alas, I am resisting the urge - a huge exercise in self control.
