Friday Crush

Look at this adorable Washington D.C. print from Etsy artist AmandaCBee. Perfect for District lovers and residents. Also available for Annapolis, Baltimore, and Charleston. I was introduced to this artist by a very stylish friend and have enjoyed keeping my eye on this shop - it's chock full of pretty, preppy art.

Do you have a long weekend ahead? I am committed to getting some chores done this weekend...all of those things that were on my to-do list for early 2017...should probably get going on them. Have a fab weekend - see you next week!

Friday Crush

Crushing on a new Etsy site - PopOColor - that has some killer designer pillows ready to make their way to your home. I'm really into the combination of this Quadrille pillow with this Kate Spade for Kravet pillow. Sidenote, did you know there was Kate Spade for Kravet? I did not. Now I do. And now I want these pillows.

I turn 35 tomorrow. Should be a great weekend. See you next week!

The Art of Janet Hill

After almost seven (!) years of blogging, I tend to forget if I've written about something in the past. This is one of those occasions...I have LONG admired the work of artist Janet Hill (and maybe I've already told you this fact).

Her work is bursting with detail, beautiful colors, and loads of whimsy. It's perfect.

She is also an exquisite interior designer, as her imagined interiors are some of the best I have encountered. I'm especially fond of her wallpaper creations.

Visit her website or her Etsy shop to see LOADS of art prints at very affordable prices. She often paints in a series so several can be put together for a lovely set.

Friday Crush

Artist Kerry Steele has the most adorable set of mini sailboat abstracts in her Etsy shop right now. I always LOVE her color use and I am digging this loose watercolor style. Get all three and frame them up in thin gold frames...A+.

Happy Friday! FYI, I'll be away from the blog next week but back the week after. Talk soon!

Etsy Shop: Wheaton Whaley Designs

My Etsy wanderings recently landed me at this adorable South Carolina-based shop, Wheaton Whaley. Chock full of darling pillows and monogrammed gifts.

That first pillow is the loveliest shade of cornflower blue - not easy to find. And let me tell you that with wedding season and summer entertaining underway, nothing makes a better gift than monogrammed cocktail napkins. Always well-received.

Talking Heads

Sometimes you need a simple, fetching piece of modern art to set off your traditional space (see: design tension).

If fetching modern art is your goal right now, check out Etsy artist BorianaM and her incredible collection of abstract head silhouettes:

I love how the artist has framed them for her shop listings - I would mimic this framing style if I purchased one. And since most are prints (though some original are available), prices are affordable.

Any of these would be the perfect punctuation mark in a space. Especially juxtaposed in an otherwise classical or traditional space.

Check out the Etsy shop here...

Friday Crush

Blerg. This busy week got away from me and thus no blogging. I hate it when that happens.

But I have been dying to repost this image from Instagram account LB Originals. This Etsy seller (keyword seller - you can buy her creations) is a MUST to follow if you like preppy, color, and Chinoiserie. Isn't this table setting fulfilling all of your valentine dreams? I would like to dive into this setting and just live in it. Move right in. It's so refreshing and sweet.

Ana Claire and I have a Galentine's date to see Disney on Ice this weekend while the boys hang back and do bro things at home. I have gotten such a kick out of seeing Valentine's Day through Ana Claire's eyes and her collection of valentines from school - they brought back so many memories of how thrilling this holiday was with the cutesy notes, candy, and decorated mailboxes. Hope you have some fantastic plans with the ones you love. See you next week!

Friday Crush

Well, now, here is a Chinoiserie feast for your eyeballs.

What is it? An illustration you can buy on Etsy based on antique Chinoiserie wallpaper. As in, you can buy this for $2.95 and print it at a 10x13 size. I'm not sure what to do with myself. I wonder if the artist could make it even bigger...could you imagine this blown up, hanging sassy in an all-white foyer? Me too.

In other news, a big thank you to Krrb for noting AO as a good blog read in the DC area. Check out their other great recommendations here...

Y'all, I thought I wasn't ready for the holidays to end. But now I'm seeing that I SO was. I'm ready for 2016 to get going. How about you? Or are you in a post-holiday depression/rut? Either way, have a fab weekend. See you next week!

2016: Year of Delight

We spent the holiday visiting my in-laws in South Carolina. Every morning, I put sugar in my coffee using the most delicate, lovely sugar spoon (per my mother-in-law's attention to detail). It was a daily delight.

I'm going into 2016 with that mindset. Make the little things delightful. The big stuff is hard to tackle. But can I pull out my pretty sugar spoon for morning coffee? Absolutely.

If you, like me, are in the roof-over-your-head-food-on-your-table demographic, we have a lot to be thankful for. And the big resolutions are important as we all want to make the most of this blessed life we are living. So I'm setting some lofty goals, but I also want to set some small goals to achieve this afternoon.

I'm looking for daily delight in 2016 for me and for my family. With an ever-present gratitude for what we have and what we can hope to have.

You're welcome for getting heavy with the first 2016 post. I had a nice little vacation over the holidays and feel refreshed and ready to enjoy 2016 and all of the design loveliness it will offer. Hope you are too!

p.s. Those darling spoons above are on Etsy here...

Watercolor Candy

My latest art crush comes in the form of these watercolor depictions of our favorite sweet treats by Etsy artist Jo Jo la Rue.

I'm still searching for art for Mac's nursery and my most recent search led me to this series...you can get them in various sizes but I think any of them would be amazing blown up really large as a single statement (assuming she can print them larger...you could inquire about a custom size):

The Smarties one would be lovely blown up above a crib in a pastel-hued nursery. Can you tell my mind is all about kid spaces these days?

You can see the candy collection at various sizes by clicking here and check out the whole shop with lots of fun watercolors here.

Elephants Off to Bed

Look at this delightful vintage print (from 1914!) that I picked up for Mac's nursery on Etsy this week:

That grumpy elephant on the left is everything.

I've been struggling with art for the nursery's walls and decided to dive into a vintage print search on Etsy and was rewarded with these fellows, off to bed in their nightshirts and caps. It was love at first sight.

I'm having it matted in black and I think a black bamboo frame might be in order. It's shipping from the UK so it might be a while before I get it but I'm looking forward to its arrival!

More details about Mac's nursery are coming up...planning several posts. I think y'all are going to love it.

Lemons Removable Wallpaper

File this under things you should know about: removable wallpaper.

Specifically this one, with lemons dancing among tones of fleshy nude and dusty mint:

Are you a Rifle Paper Co. fangirl like me? Rejoice! This paper is definitely in that style (thought NOT by RPC!)

In general, this removable wallpaper thing is very intriguing - I heard about it a while ago (I think when Spoonflower started selling the concept) and it only recently surfaced in my brain as I need some for a little project at home - a project that only requires a tiny bit of paper in a spot where I don't  want high commitment (read: easy to take it down if needed). I didn't go with this one above but I'm interested to see how it goes up and looks when complete. Will fill you in on the deets when I get to it.

Do you like this lemon situation? I am heart-eyed-emoji about it. PERFECT for a nursery or little girl's room.

Watercolor Prints

Check out these sweet, delightful watercolor prints from Hong Kong-based Etsy shop colorZen. Not sure which one is my favorite, though I'm pulling for the flamingos:

If you are looking for a set of prints to fill a wall, this shop will be your jam. The artist, Tinarosa Tam, has oodles of subject matter to choose from. OODLES. Plants, flowers, animals, sea creatures...pretty much anything you might be interested in. And she runs deals on buying multiples plus offers ready-made sets to choose from. And everything is affordable. You can't afford not to check it out.

See all of the goodies here...

Etsy Shop Indigo Home

I just came across the most delightful Etsy shop based out of Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia called Indigo Home.

The owner creates monogrammed eggs....I didn't know these were a thing. Where has my monogrammed egg been all my life?

Perched on a girly vanity, these eggs are simply precious (Mother's Day gift alert). The shop specializes in custom watercolor and pen/ink illustrated gifts and I'm happy to report many of her items have a solid Chinoiserie flair.

Like these pagodas for your pets! Bowls and a treat canister...so cute:

The shop has Christmas ornaments, stationary and other sweet items...and I'm sure she creates lovely custom items by request. Check everything out here...

Shout out to Virginia talent!

Rainbow Reptile Art

How delightfully wonderful are these rainbow reptiles?! All are from Etsy shop twoems. These would be the cutest starting point for a little boy's room (can you see where my brain is these days?)

And these are just the tip of the iceberg. The shop, run by artist Melanie Mikecz, is FULL of colorful, whimsical art including some geometric pieces that are perfect for us grown-ups. And they are all prints, so very affordable. I love this adorable set for a little boy but there are SO many pieces that I want for our playroom. I love discovering a fantastic Etsy shop!

Check out all of Melanie's pieces here...

Felt Applique Pillows on Etsy

I have long since had this handmade bunny pillow from Etsy shop Cheeky Monkey Home on my favorites list. The sweet pink tone, adorable pom fringe and frolicking bunnies caught my eye and the upcoming Easter holiday reminded me that I should share it with you.

It also comes in blue and a pair would be just about the cutest accent on twin beds in a shared boy/girl bedroom.

If you love these pillows like I do, you'll fall in love with this Etsy seller whose whimsical felt pillow creations are completely delightful. All you need is one to inject a space with fun:

^^I think Mac needs this one for his non-existent nursery^^

That last one is actually a custom silhouette of your little one! That's amazingly cute.

If you had no idea these pillows were out there, you're welcome.
