Friday Crush

Design by Mallory Mathison Glenn

I know this room is seeing the rounds on the Internet, but this particular shot of it really spoke to me. An ongoing exercise I have been doing for at least a year is to save images that nail the vibe I want in the new house. Not necessarily spaces that I want to emulate, or that have a certain fabric or piece of furniture I like, but spaces that holistically have a look that I often find hard to describe.

Like this example. I'm not planning on recreating any particular element, but the overall look is on my radar. Traditional. With wonderful use of color. And the color doesn't overwhelm, but elevates. Obviously there is always some Chinoiserie. Color palettes are usually pretty tailored, with room for a small complimentary color to make an appearance. All the layers - pattern, color, texture.

As I share inspiration, I think you'll see a definite pattern emerge. Hope you have a great weekend. See you next week!

Friday Crush

The temps in Virginia are finally descending. Took all of October, but I feel like my favorite season has finally begun. And this mystery image - I know nothing about it, do you? - is a depiction of my desired state. Cozy, warm, colorful, rich...all the things I love about this season.

Halloween costumes make their debut this weekend and my kids could not be more excited...fingers crossed the costumes stay intact through Tuesday. Hope you have a fun weekend ahead. See you next week!

Friday Crush

If you've read this blog and/or know me, you know that Thanksgiving is my own personal table-setting Olympics. It's the one holiday that I really gear up for in the table and entertaining department. Examples can be seen here and here.

You also probably know that I'm loyally devoted to Caspari and all things paper and entertaining that they produce. LIKE THIS NEW TURKEY PLATE.

Let's be clear that I already purchased my set...for next year. Because I had already purchased Caspari plates for this year. But this beauty was just too good to pass up.

We are closing in on potentially finalizing our move. Fingers crossed. Real Estate = Emotional Rollercoaster. Hope you have a fun fall weekend. See you next week!

Friday Crush

Before we fully plunge into Fall, let's take a step back to spring...mostly to look at that clever use of chandelier shades on a lantern. This room is lovely but I'm posting it here so we can learn this important lighting lesson. Who loves a lantern light? 🙋 But sometimes the exposed bulbs kind of turn me off, pun intended. But adding chandy shades is just plain smart. Totally warms up the fixture without ruining the look. Do people do this all the time and I just missed it? We are all now in on this secret.

Also, green grasscloth walls. On my mind. But I'm contemplating olive green.

Happy weekend! We made it! Hope it's a great one...see you next week!

Friday Crush

The jaw-dropper of the week, likely the month (at least). Designed by Miles Redd. Not surprising.

I can't tell you how I've been turning this color scheme around in my head for a couple of weeks. I have a pair of what are essentially light blue curtains with tiny touches of some darker colors and I just decided that to make them pack a punch, I need to pull out the olive green in a big way. And then this image popped up on Schumacher's Insta  and I was done for. Serious perfection.

This space is in NO way near what I'm working with (#understatement) but boy is it inspiring. ALL the shades of green with varying shades of blue anchored by black, white, and gold. Thank you internet!

Fall. Hallelujah. Though we'll be struggling with some high 80s until next weekend, but I see the end in sight. I'm already hoarding my pumpkin candles but I refuse to light them until our weather holds steady at least in the 70s. It's my annual ritual. Enjoy your weekend. See you next week!

Friday Crush

Full-on autumnalness in maybe my favorite color combination available - green and lavender. The sofa is jaw-dropping. Olive green is having a moment on my radar and this sofa is pretty much fulfilling ever desire I have for the color. That wallpaper might give me a headache on the daily, but for this shot, it's killer. And that set of orchid pillows...👌

This fall is already starting out pretty hectic. Lots going on in my world. And baby is less than 3 months away 😳 Enjoy your weekend respite...see you next week!

Friday Crush

Let's kick off the holiday weekend with this feast for your eyeballs. Designed by Society Social and found on Quadrille's Insta, this vignette is pastel perfection. Why does lavender have such an effect on me? But it always does. This is bringing more of a Spring feel than a Fall one, but I'll take it.

We are going to enjoy one last beach hurrah and then it will be time to welcome FALL. Thank the heavens. I'm not of the summer variety so I'm ready to move on. Hope you have a great holiday weekend - see you next week!

Friday Crush

Gil Schafer is reaching idol status in my life - all of his firm's projects are beyond exhilarating to look at - like this one featured in Traditional Home. Designer Libby Cameron collaborated with Schafer's architecture firm to create a STUNNING masterpiece of a home - each room is amazing. But this dining room took my breath away - the wallpaper, moldings, rug, and chairs are unbelievable. A completely and utterly traditional space that no one can say is stuffy or boring. So many risks and such a huge reward!

It's been a crazy busy week here with lots of chores and to-do lists for the weekend. Here's to a productive 48 hours...I hope. See you next week!

Friday Crush

On my radar this week - fabric and textiles from Charleston artist Lulie Wallace. Especially this number - her Florence wallpaper. My love for touches of orchid and lavender will never die! I think this paper would be stunning in a dining room. It's definitely feminine but the colors are fresh and, done right, I think could feel modern and not too soft.

This week...woof. It was a doozy. I hope you (and me) get some peace to recharge and recenter this weekend...see you next week!

Friday Crush

Mark D. Sikes - always winning in my book. His work is timeless and often infused with my beloved Chinoiserie. Case in point 👆. You should check out the whole apartment here - it's a zinger. Also, these walls appear to be a very light lavender...a color that doesn't really appear anywhere in the room's accoutrement. Take note - I like that trick of using an "off" color for your walls that you don't really repeat but I find it provides a nice contrasting backdrop to add interest.

Cross your fingers, I think I scored a great campaign dresser for Mac's upcoming big boy room. It is not in my possession yet, but hope to grab it this weekend. Hope your weekend is either relaxing or exciting...see you next week!

Friday Crush

Per our conversation yesterday re: Miles Redd + Ballard, I couldn't let this inspo image slip our notice. I will say, when you view the product catalog it feels a bit stale because the upholstered pieces are all in their virgin, non-customized form. But this image is a great depiction of what this collection becomes once you start customizing. That wallpaper (which Ballard carries as a fabric) is on my current top 10 list - it's called Mira Blue.

I haven't had a decorating project in our own house for years. But with baby boy approaching, it looks like a big boy room for Mac is on the horizon. And I might actually finish up Mac's current nursery just in time for his little brother's arrival. I'm looking at fabrics to get inspired...happy to be back in the saddle of my own decorating again.

Have a great weekend...see you next week!

Source?

Did I tell you #3 is a boy? I think I left out that detail...but he is! And I love this darling space for a sweet boy. You know I'm into a good alcove bed and the shades of brown with little instances of color are just adorable. And quite practical with so much storage.

Was hoping for a weekend at the pool, but it looks like rain will be our companion here in Virginia. Hope the sun is shining where you are. See you next week!

High ceiling goals. LOOK at this art by Cathy Lancaster hanging against Quadrille wallpaper at the store Blue Print in Dallas. Layer in the furniture arrangement, colors, and bold large-scale pattern and the whole look just fills up your eyeballs. In the best way possible.

Thought I would leave you with an especially good Crush, as I will be away from the blog next week. Hope your mid-July is going swimmingly and I will see you back here week after next.

Well, HELLO. Citrus Garden by Schumacher is on these walls of perfection. Black + White + Pattern will eternally be a favorite. And that little garden stool is winning on all levels (I have a source for you here). Also, black toilet seats should be on your list. I actually have one forever in my Amazon cart that I have yet to purchase (it's been years) but I need to get on that per this photo.

We have a pretty packed summer weekend ahead...hope you are doing something fun. See you next week!

Friday Crush

This image from Chenault James Interiors' Insta has been on my radar for a good long while. The desire for a built-in kitchen breakfast nook never leaves me and I L-O-V-E the idea of taking a high-end fabric that you would NEVER allow your children to eat on and coating it to create a perfectly slick, wipeable surface. So clever and chic.

I am on a plane to Spain this weekend (heading back for work - remember I went last year?) so I'll be away from the blog next week. Enjoy doting on the dads in your life and I'll see you the week after next!

Restrained sophistication. Love the twinning of the painting and side table. And THAT LAMP. It's by Kelly Wearstler for Circa Lighting if you are interested. What I always admire about truly neutral spaces are their command of texture and dimension. The sofa, blanket, and rug all have varying textures...the lamp has dimension as does the wallpaper...and then the swirls of the table and painting take it to another level. So well done. Check out the full project here...

We are kicking off a true summer weekend...hope you have some fun plans. See you next week!

Eddie Ross always has the Midas touch...and this Insta peek at how his master bathroom is shaping up at his new house is pretty much everything that is right with the world. The blue/green Le Lac colorway is iconic and coupled with that tile, this will be #bathroomgoals. Can't WAIT to see this one in its final state.

Summer has begun. We'll be hitting the pool and Ana Claire will make her dance debut in her first recital. Hope your weekend has fun plans. See you next week!

Friday Crush

May your Memorial Day weekend be like this image. Breezy, casual, relaxed, and beautiful. Don't you love all the details here? The ceiling, the sconce, the slice of the room in the background...We stayed at a ski house back in February and there were wall hooks EVERYWHERE...and let me tell you, they were useful. They left such an impression on me and this image brought back the thought that hooks are our friends. Especially when they look this good.

Happy long weekend!! See you next week!

My favorite thing here - beside the obvious wallpaper usage - is that mirror hung above the window. It's unexpected and draws your eye up making a tight room feel grand. Love how the headboards neatly tuck into the corners and the overall soothing symmetry of the space.

Enjoy the weekend toasting the mothers in your life. See you next week!

Friday Crush

Design by Summer Thornton, image via Insta

It is the gloomiest of gloomy days here. Which, I will be honest, I completely enjoy. Especially if it means a lazy day lounging around. Unfortunately that will not be my reality today but this bed would be perfect if it was. THAT BED. The wooden edge of the headboard is so delicate and is it embroidered? I also love the delicate, scalloped-edge top sheet. Very pretty.

May has started in the same whirlwind fashion as April, but hopefully this is a downward trend. I could use a little zen time soon. But we're happy, healthy, fed, clothed, loved...I'll take life's tumult - it's a gift. Maybe your weekend will have a little zen? If so, enjoy it. See you next week!
