DIY Brass Sconce

Did you notice I didn't blog last week? Oopsies. Crazy busy week and then I took off Thursday for the Bahamas with my work team. It was amazing. And needed. And now I'm back with a slight tan and slightly clearer brain.

So let's get back to it with an adorable IKEA hack that I'm planning to swipe for myself. Have you seen this precious little girl's room from blog Dwellings by DeVore? Completely adorable.

And though the room and gallery wall are really cute, I'm completely focused on the hack of that IKEA sconce as I'm always on the hunt for an inexpensive, good-looking sconce and I think this one fits the bill. It's the RODD Wall Lamp - the bad news is I don't think you can get it online. Boo.

But a little gold spray paint and cool lamp shade go a long way here. Perfectly sweet in this space but you could reimagine the shade several ways and use it in a grown-up way.

Friday Crush

Design by Amanda Lindroth, Photo by Thomas Loof for House Beautiful

Fine. Let's kick off summer this weekend. This is definitely my least favorite season of the year but I can't argue that being at the beach and grilling out and having daylight beyond 6pm are bad things. This image got me in the mood to welcome summer despite my bah humbug spirit. Mostly because I yearn for striped, scalloped awnings. And y'all know I love orange and white :)

Enjoy your weekend celebrating the Fathers in your life. I will enjoy the weekend with mine...hope it's wonderful and see you next week!

Fabric Deal: Brunschwig Chenonceaux

I just found a spectacular deal on one of my favorite fabrics on eBay. Raise your hand if you love Brunschwig & Fils' Chenonceaux.

It has always been a favorite of mine. And I just found 6 yards of the pinky/green colorway on eBay for $160!!! That's RIDICULOUS.

See the listing here »

I'm really trying not to hoard fabric these days so I'm walking away but the next best thing to buying is sharing. Tell me if you get it! And how you'll use it! (I would opt for upholstering a small chair)

Lavender Living Room

Did you catch this image in your inbox via Joss & Main last night? It was the cover photo for their current Pastels & Metallics sale.

What is it about a lavender room that makes me fall all over myself? Use lavender to its full potential in a space and I'm hooked. Like the room above - LOVE the (grasscloth?) lavender ceiling, the modern velvet chairs and the fun metallic ottoman. Combined with soft-colored walls and touches of green and seafoam, I like what I'm seeing.

I don't really exalt lavender (read: purple) otherwise, but I'm continuously drawn to it in interiors. And maybe eyeshadow. What are your feelings on the hue?

Friday Crush

A bright, cheerful space for the little ones. Love all the colors in this space by Australian designer Petite Vintage Interiors. The mural is obviously fantastic but I would be happy with just the baskets and that little table arrangement. Adorable.

Another lazy weekend ahead for the Shufflers...hope you have some fun plans as summer starts to ramp up. Have a fantastic weekend...see you next week!

Watercolor Prints

Check out these sweet, delightful watercolor prints from Hong Kong-based Etsy shop colorZen. Not sure which one is my favorite, though I'm pulling for the flamingos:

If you are looking for a set of prints to fill a wall, this shop will be your jam. The artist, Tinarosa Tam, has oodles of subject matter to choose from. OODLES. Plants, flowers, animals, sea creatures...pretty much anything you might be interested in. And she runs deals on buying multiples plus offers ready-made sets to choose from. And everything is affordable. You can't afford not to check it out.

See all of the goodies here...

Blue Tile Shower

As you know, I don't often blog about bathrooms. I like a lovely bathroom as much as the next person...they just tend not to excite blog words from me. But when I saw this blue creation from Better Homes & Gardens,  I had words.

Baby Blue + Black + White = insert thumbs up/heart emojis. LOVE the color combination. The blue cabinetry is just so pretty and I would wager that black cabinetry would have also looked bangin' and made the shower that much more of a focal point.

And can we all agree that the shower is fantastic with its sea of blue tile? I'm a big fan. And it all looks so big and open and nice...our shower here at Casa Shuffler is a tiled stall that is perhaps 2.5'x2.5'. It's teeny. And I'll be honest that I kind of like it. You shower in a cocoon - a shower and sauna in one!

So when I see these open stalls I think they look great but then I convince myself I would be freezing. But maybe not. It might be a lovely experience. Do you have such a bathroom arrangement? What are your thoughts?

I will always be loyal to black floor tile so that also gets a big thumbs up. Not sure why the baseboard tile on the sink side is white...I guess going for a counter match, but I would have opted for black, yes? And I think the ceiling would be delightful in a light shade of the same baby blue to soften the transition a bit from tile to ceiling. You are welcome for my unsolicited advice, homeowners.

Friday Crush

Eddie Ross and his hot pink peonies, for the win. What a delicious vignette that just screams summer. I love, love pairing hot pink with blue and white porcelain - a classic color combination that will always be chic. And add in some hosta to blend with the amazing palm wallpaper...100% winning.

June weekends are pretty sleepy around here...but I'm not complaining. Hope you have some exciting plans to enjoy the break. Have a great weekend and see you next week!

Hexagon Tile Kitchen Floor

I love a classic black and white hexagon tile floor in a bathroom. You just can't go wrong. And I find the shape works wonderfully in what is typically a smaller room...the visual noise of all those edges makes a nice statement.

And I'm usually a believer that larger tile is better for a larger space like a kitchen, but then I saw this photo and now I'm correcting myself:

All that marble could start feeling a bit stuffy but the blue cabinetry and fun floor keep things cool. And I love the flower pattern and Greek key-ish border...definitely a unique pattern for this very classic tile.

What do you think? Are you a fan of this flair in the kitchen? Or too busy for you?

Hutchins House

I think Carter and I would be really good at running a bed and breakfast. His chattiness and genuine interest in the life of strangers coupled with my design eye and cooking skills would make for a successful hospitality business. I'm sure of it.

And this Greek Revival gem in Mississippi - Hutchins House - would be the perfect property for said business. TONS of potential ready to be unearthed:

The home dates back to 1877, is located in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, and is on the market for $176,000 (which in DC-metro area terms is a bargain). I'm in love with the green roof...and that porch looks amazing. Perfect for our wine and cheese happy hours.

Read more about the house here and here. And if you buy it, let me know.
