Kerry Steele Pop-Up

Get those mouse-clicking fingers warmed up. A pop-up from one of my favorite artists - Kerry Steele - hits Furbish Studio's website this morning at 11 am.

Kerry now lives and works in Charleston, but she used to live in Virginia. During this time is when I got to know her and her work. Let me tell you, Kerry is a talent. A warm and inviting person whose vibrant personality shimmers in her artwork.

I own two pieces from Kerry...here is the larger one that hangs in our den:

I'm sure the sampling at Furbish this morning will be dynamite...so I want to make sure you don't miss it.

Click here to hit the sale at 11 am...

Those Furbish pop-ups don't mess around, so I hope you snag something good!

Happy weekend! See you next week.

Lowcountry Oysters

I'm back from my blissful vacation - our annual trip to the beach where I always reconnect with the beauty of South Carolina's Lowcountry.

On that subject, I've had my eye on the work of artist Chelsea Goer for a while. She is part of the Charleston Artist Collective with roots in South Carolina and a childhood often spent on Pawley's Island, close to where we vacation.

The subject of her Collective paintings is mainly oysters. So simple, yet Chelsea gives them such dimension and range. From abstract and colorful, to murky and real, I can't get enough of her take on these shells.

Beautiful, am I right? Check out all of her pieces for the Collective here...

Friday Crush

High ceiling goals. LOOK at this art by Cathy Lancaster hanging against Quadrille wallpaper at the store Blue Print in Dallas. Layer in the furniture arrangement, colors, and bold large-scale pattern and the whole look just fills up your eyeballs. In the best way possible.

Thought I would leave you with an especially good Crush, as I will be away from the blog next week. Hope your mid-July is going swimmingly and I will see you back here week after next.

Cotton Blossoms by Hannah Lane

Sorry to tempt you with these beautiful pieces from Nashville-based artist Hannah Lane. They are sold works but their simple beauty is worth a look for inspiration only.

Great colors paired with the uncomplicated forms of cotton blossoms.

Hannah's work can be found as part of the Nashville Artist Collective - similar to the Charleston and Capital editions. I can't stress enough what great resources these are for sourcing affordable, beautiful art!

Friday Crush

Look at this adorable Washington D.C. print from Etsy artist AmandaCBee. Perfect for District lovers and residents. Also available for Annapolis, Baltimore, and Charleston. I was introduced to this artist by a very stylish friend and have enjoyed keeping my eye on this shop - it's chock full of pretty, preppy art.

Do you have a long weekend ahead? I am committed to getting some chores done this weekend...all of those things that were on my to-do list for early 2017...should probably get going on them. Have a fab weekend - see you next week!

Capitol Artist Collective Launch

I had the pleasure of attending the launch of the Capitol Artist Collective last night - held in Washington D.C. at the (gorgeous) home of its director, Katharine Reishman. The CapAC is the latest offshoot started by the Charleston Artist Collective, now also present in Atlanta and Nashville.

These artist collectives bring together various geographically co-located artists to promote their art through monthly themes...and the proceeds of these monthly sales go to a charity local to that collective. The art is affordable and sold directly to customers. It's a brilliant model.

The Capitol Artist Collective is bringing together artists from Central Virginia (Richmond, Charlottesville) all the way to Baltimore, with an obvious stop in D.C. The talent is rich and the works are lovely. January's theme is, appropriately, "New Beginnings" and proceeds benefit the Children's National Medical Center:

Local, affordable, original, gorgeous art promoting the skills of those in your community while benefiting those in need around you. Like I said, brilliant.

Check out all available works here...

The Art of Carson Price

I am so pumped to share some hometown love for Richmond, Virginia-based artist, Carson Price.  Your eyes will bug out when you view her sensational works of art - playful color, texture, abstracts, landscapes - often of Richmond...it's all just very, very good.

^^ I really, really want this one ^^

That last one there is my sister-in-law Joanna's dining room in Richmond, designed by Lesley Glotzl. The scale and juxtaposition of those black and white pieces by Carson are dynamite in this space. And though I'm drawn to Carson's use of bold color, she does some phenomenal neutral nudes and contemporary pieces like these for Jo. You really need to look at her website.

Speaking of her website, Carson and her team write a great blog...and recently did a fab primer on creating a layered, inviting outdoor space. This is the perfect time of year to entertain in this type of space if you are lucky enough to have one. Read the post for some tips and then click around to see more of her art.

And that's Carson ^. She is foxy. And talented. Double whammy.

Blue Bedroom Starter Set

I pinned these things for different reasons and realized they all coalesce into the delightful beginning of a blue-hued bedroom:

Bedroom-in-a-blog....like bed-in-a-bag. You're welcome.

The Art of Janet Hill

After almost seven (!) years of blogging, I tend to forget if I've written about something in the past. This is one of those occasions...I have LONG admired the work of artist Janet Hill (and maybe I've already told you this fact).

Her work is bursting with detail, beautiful colors, and loads of whimsy. It's perfect.

She is also an exquisite interior designer, as her imagined interiors are some of the best I have encountered. I'm especially fond of her wallpaper creations.

Visit her website or her Etsy shop to see LOADS of art prints at very affordable prices. She often paints in a series so several can be put together for a lovely set.

Friday Crush

I have never gotten over this vignette from the recent One Room Challenge from Mimosa Lane.  Yesterday's post - with it's vibrant face art and patterns - reminded me of it and it perfectly encompasses my Friday Summer Feels. The standout art is by Hayley Mitchell and the good news is you can snag very affordable prints of similar works from her Etsy shop.

Who's ready for the Olympics? Ana Claire and I have been gearing up watching 2012 coverage of gymnastics on You Tube...always followed by a solid 10 minutes of AC attempting flips and jumps in our living room. You'll catch us between Olympics-watching and pool-swimming this weekend. Hope yours is great - see you next week!

Friday Crush

Artist Kerry Steele has the most adorable set of mini sailboat abstracts in her Etsy shop right now. I always LOVE her color use and I am digging this loose watercolor style. Get all three and frame them up in thin gold frames...A+.

Happy Friday! FYI, I'll be away from the blog next week but back the week after. Talk soon!

Friday Crush

Photo by Eric Piasecki, Design by Gideon Mendelson, via House Beautiful

Now this is a gem. Those walls and that baseboard! Would you ever be so bold as to do something like this in your home? It's a risk but it certainly pays off. I'm also loving the painting (by Vittorio Masoni) and how it looks hanging against a colored, tactile backdrop. Also note the height of that baseboard...I'm a fan of hefty baseboard, even if your ceilings are low. Gives the room dimension.

This has been a whirlwind of a week...I'm ready for some downtime. Hope you have a restful 48 hours planned. See you next week!

Friday Crush

Let me tell you that I had one of the most astonishing, sensory-shocking experiences last week when I visited the Wonder exhibit currently at the Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC.

The entire exhibit is great and evokes what it implies...Wonder.

BUT THERE IS THIS ROOM. THAT IS HOT PINK AND FULL OF BUGS. And it's bananas.

I hate bugs. And skulls. But I fell madly in love with this room. I could have legitimately stood in it all day long.

Both photos do it no justice. Its creator is Jennifer Angus - an apparel and textile design professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her travels through Thailand and Malaysia inspired a fascination with the beauty of insects, which she marries with her craft of pattern design.

The bugs are real, y'all. Dead (obvi) but real. And that wall color is from bug juice. It's both terrifying and beautiful. Very Frida Kahlo.

If you're in DC, go see it. I think it closes May 8. If you're not in DC, read this article and watch this video and this video.

This one stirred up a lot in me. Grateful that I got to experience it!

Modern Minis

At 4x4, these little works by artist Emily Brown pack a tee-tiny modern punch.

Love the colors and movement achieved on a small scale. Perfect for collecting (@ $65/each) and displaying in a series of minis. They are works on birch, so they would provide dimension on a wall.

I love pretty much everything put out into the world by the Charleston Artist Collective. If you are not familiar, do check out the site if you love affordable pieces by Southern artists. The bonus is that 10% of sales go to local Charleston charities.
