Friday Crush

Source?

Did I tell you #3 is a boy? I think I left out that detail...but he is! And I love this darling space for a sweet boy. You know I'm into a good alcove bed and the shades of brown with little instances of color are just adorable. And quite practical with so much storage.

Was hoping for a weekend at the pool, but it looks like rain will be our companion here in Virginia. Hope the sun is shining where you are. See you next week!

Lowcountry Oysters

I'm back from my blissful vacation - our annual trip to the beach where I always reconnect with the beauty of South Carolina's Lowcountry.

On that subject, I've had my eye on the work of artist Chelsea Goer for a while. She is part of the Charleston Artist Collective with roots in South Carolina and a childhood often spent on Pawley's Island, close to where we vacation.

The subject of her Collective paintings is mainly oysters. So simple, yet Chelsea gives them such dimension and range. From abstract and colorful, to murky and real, I can't get enough of her take on these shells.

Beautiful, am I right? Check out all of her pieces for the Collective here...

Friday Crush

High ceiling goals. LOOK at this art by Cathy Lancaster hanging against Quadrille wallpaper at the store Blue Print in Dallas. Layer in the furniture arrangement, colors, and bold large-scale pattern and the whole look just fills up your eyeballs. In the best way possible.

Thought I would leave you with an especially good Crush, as I will be away from the blog next week. Hope your mid-July is going swimmingly and I will see you back here week after next.

Waverly Fabrics

Every so often, I dip into a fabric search for the brand Waverly. Always affordable, I find that it usually delights me with some winners.

This time, blue and white fabrics caught my eye.

Fleuretta Bluejay - On my immediate short list to cover a pair of (imaginary) club chairs. Has a bit of a Pyne Hollyhock flair.

Monkey Jars Tide Pool - Singerie at its best. I will say, monkeys are not my jam, but I get it if they are yours. And these are adorable. Not to mention the blue/white porcelain. Are you a Chinoiserie lover with a breakfast nook that could use a window valence or some pillows? Here you go.

Williamsburg Charlotte Twill Bluebell - Really timeless. If you look closely at the petals, the fabric has a lovely blue/white stripe pattern that I would tease out elsewhere.

Any favorites?

Friday Crush

Design by Pencil and Paper Co. via Instagram

Well, HELLO. Citrus Garden by Schumacher is on these walls of perfection. Black + White + Pattern will eternally be a favorite. And that little garden stool is winning on all levels (I have a source for you here). Also, black toilet seats should be on your list. I actually have one forever in my Amazon cart that I have yet to purchase (it's been years) but I need to get on that per this photo.

We have a pretty packed summer weekend ahead...hope you are doing something fun. See you next week!

Paint It All

I am squirreling away ideas for a future project on Pinterest and as I was taking inventory the other day, it became obvious that I'm obsessed with the idea of painting an entire space - wall, cabinetry, moulding - the same color.

It always strikes me a so clever and chic...and easy.

Every space here feels high-end but if you break down the elements, they're all pretty simple. But what puts each space over the edge is the bold use of one color. I've written about this before, but I thought it was time for another reminder - paint it all, friends.

Party of 5

Some patriotic swimwear to kick off your holiday weekend...as well as some fun news - we're expecting! Shuffler child number 3 will join us this November. Remember when I didn't blog at all in April? #firsttrimester But it's over and I'm feeling much better!

So cheers to my growing family and a fun holiday weekend ahead with lots of pool time, friend time, and family time. See you next week!

Safavieh Stools

Garden stools are perpetually on my radar. Great size, highly versatile, instantly chic.

Their popularity isn't going anywhere and I just found these blue/white numbers from Safavieh that are perfectly perfect:

At under $100, I think a mismatched pair flanking a settee would be lovely and affordable. Although garden stools are a little easier to come by in retail these days, I do think finding blue and white ones is harder and these are quite pretty.

Shop these three here, here, and here.

Friday Crush

This image from Chenault James Interiors' Insta has been on my radar for a good long while. The desire for a built-in kitchen breakfast nook never leaves me and I L-O-V-E the idea of taking a high-end fabric that you would NEVER allow your children to eat on and coating it to create a perfectly slick, wipeable surface. So clever and chic.

I am on a plane to Spain this weekend (heading back for work - remember I went last year?) so I'll be away from the blog next week. Enjoy doting on the dads in your life and I'll see you the week after next!

Catch Me in the Washington Post!

Friends, I'm so excited to share that The Washington Post recently asked me to weigh in on their Splurge or Save column...and it's available today!

I got to pick a subject of my choice so, naturally, I picked Chinoiserie.

Head on over to the online edition and see my picks for worthy splurges and smart savings for some of my favorite, classic Chinoiserie items.

And for locals, pick up the print edition and check out the Local Living section.

Special thanks to Megan McDonough for reaching out and including me.

Friday Crush

Photo by Victor Harshbarger, Design by Hernandez Greene

Restrained sophistication. Love the twinning of the painting and side table. And THAT LAMP. It's by Kelly Wearstler for Circa Lighting if you are interested. What I always admire about truly neutral spaces are their command of texture and dimension. The sofa, blanket, and rug all have varying textures...the lamp has dimension as does the wallpaper...and then the swirls of the table and painting take it to another level. So well done. Check out the full project here...

We are kicking off a true summer weekend...hope you have some fun plans. See you next week!

Katie Rosenfeld NYC

It's been a while since I've written about one of my favorite designers - Katie Rosenfeld - and, boy, do I have a doozy for you today.

Check out this maximalist New York City apartment...Katie and her client did not hold back and the results are stunning.

My personal favorite space is the bedroom featuring Les Touches with that punctuation of spring green. But every space is thrilling to look at with hearty doses of Chinoiserie and color.

Check out the full apartment here, along with some notes on the design from Katie...

Friday Crush

Eddie Ross always has the Midas touch...and this Insta peek at how his master bathroom is shaping up at his new house is pretty much everything that is right with the world. The blue/green Le Lac colorway is iconic and coupled with that tile, this will be #bathroomgoals. Can't WAIT to see this one in its final state.

Summer has begun. We'll be hitting the pool and Ana Claire will make her dance debut in her first recital. Hope your weekend has fun plans. See you next week!

Catalog Pick: Jacqueline Dinner Plate

Thus far, I have opted for all white when it comes to our casual dinner plates. But I have recently fallen in love with these Jacqueline dinner plates from Ballard Designs:

The scalloped edge, dots, and design are just gorgeous. Perfect for summer AND holiday time.

And I can't stop thinking about creating a patriotic table by layering it with these plates from Juliska (that I actually own...hmmm...):

Beautiful stuff, right? Those Ballard plates are immediately at the top of my wish list.

Friday Crush

May your Memorial Day weekend be like this image. Breezy, casual, relaxed, and beautiful. Don't you love all the details here? The ceiling, the sconce, the slice of the room in the background...We stayed at a ski house back in February and there were wall hooks EVERYWHERE...and let me tell you, they were useful. They left such an impression on me and this image brought back the thought that hooks are our friends. Especially when they look this good.

Happy long weekend!! See you next week!
