Home Office Fabrics

I need a home office immediately. 2010 ended in a whirlwind, and 2011 is starting out just as busy and without a dedicated space for work and personal projects, I feel completely disorganized.

Initially, Carter and I decided to use the second upstairs bedroom as a dual office. It's a large room and can easily fit two desks. But it's also a "nothing" room that is mostly storage and Carter's closet, so I was never inspired to sit up there and work. Thus, my desk turned into a big [messy] storage area.

So, I decided to turn our small guest bedroom downstairs into a dual bedroom/office. That way I can work in a lovely space that is all my own.

I've posted about this before, but a blanket started my color scheme:

So far, I have used grays and reds in the space, including on some pelmet boxes for the windows:

I also spraypainted a darling bamboo chandelier a very bright, glossy red and hung it in the space - and that's as far as I've gotten. But, as I enter 2011, this room is at the tippy top of my list.

To start moving forward again, I bought these two fabrics to use in the room:

I think the spotted fabric will be for a boxspring cover for the bed. And the pink fabric will be a throw pillow. I need to start thinking about adding some different colors over my base of gray/red and I keep going toward pinks/purples. Like in these table linens...

I have a modern glass and chrome desk waiting in the wings to be assembled this weekend. I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Is there a room in your house that is at the top of your list for some work in 2011?

  1. I love your choices! Do you mind sharing who makes the last fabric? I've seen it before, but I can't remember where!

    Thanks,

  2. Daniela,

You and I are on the same page. It can be a bit difficult trying to set up a work space, when there is so much work to do.

So far your choices are wonderful. I can't wait for the updates.

  3. Kelly - it's by Victoria Hagan. I think it's called Twilight Rhythm. Hope that helps!

  4. The glass and chrome desk should really pop against all your fun fabrics. Looking forward to seeing it!

  5. * I'm SO THRILLED to have just "found" you, & have been back-reading n' back-reading, so far, for at least 1/2 hour! What a DEEELIGHTFUL BLOG you have!!! (Signed up to receive it by E-mail too, of course)...

Your study/office will undoubtedly turn out to be "fabulously YOU", & I look SO forward to following its creation! Such FUN!!!

We just finished a totally new study w/ built-ins, a stone wall, etc for my husband n' I... it USED to be "MY study", & I intentionally designed it to be more "masculine" (complete w/ a partners' desk, hoping to "lure" my sweet husband into coming in & spending some time in here!), & we're actually both so in LOVE WITH THIS SPACE that we're having our coffee & watching the news in here in the a.m., etc. (You know, "new infatuation" with it all & such!)... And I LOVE that we're using it NOT just for "my study"... It's WONDERFUL!

I KNOW YOU'LL LOVE YOUR NEW SPACE! And again, I will be enjoying watching your dream come to fruition!

    2011 warm wishes to you!

  6. this will be the year we decorate the 4th bedroom upstairs. it's been the catchall for everything! and i hate it. i'm thinking mini tv room. you know... for those nights when both real housewives and ufc are on at the same time. we have 2 extra leather chairs and an extra tv (from upgrading to a large size in the family room). it's the only room in the house still with builder's paint and it drives me insane. happy new year! pam
